Lamborghini Gallardo

Reinvented italian

Presented at the 2003 Geneva Motor Show, the Gallardo was the first car of the Italian brand to be equipped with a V10 engine. All previous models were equipped with V12 engines.

It was the entry model of the Italian brand until 2013 when it was out of line for the arrival of the Huracán.

Designed before the acquisition of Lamborghini by Audi, it took shape with the completion of the business, as it was possible to combine the beautiful body created by the Belgian designer Luc Donckerwolke with an aluminum chassis developed by the Audi Aluminum Center in Neckarsulm, Germany.

The design marked by angular shapes that evidence the advanced cabin is inherited from its predecessor, the Diablo, but the doors open in the traditional way. Lamborghini decided to make available those that have the scissor movement only in cars equipped with V12 engines.

Out of the partnership between Lamborghini and Cosworth Engineering, the Gallardo uses a beautiful 5.0-liter V10 with dual valve control on each bench and 90 ° angle between them. So it can benefit from the smaller overall height when compared to those using 72 °. The power generated is in the house of 500 hp at 7,800 rpm and maximum torque of 52 m.kgf at 4,500 rpm, 80% of them already available at low 1,500 rpm. The top speed hits 309 km/h and the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 4.2 seconds.

To handle this force, the six-speed manual gearbox has a system called E-Gear, which allows you to make changes by means of butterflies on the steering wheel. In addition, it provides the driver with four operating programs: normal, sporty, automatic and for low-adhesion floors. The traction is a separate case: it is permanent integral but it sends 70% of the torque to the rear wheels in normal conditions of adhesion (in abrupt accelerations are 80%). If there is loss of traction the system identifies and divides the force 50% for each axis.

To maximize grip, the Gallardo features 19-inch aluminum wheels on Pirelli PZero Rosso 235/35 ZR tires at the front and 295/30 ZR at the rear. Brembo's Italian brakes have ventilated 365-mm discs with 8-piston calipers at the front and 335-mm calipers with 4-piston calipers at the rear.

The exhaust system comes equipped with two noise reduction valves that control the exhaust fumes leaving the Italian bull very quiet at low speeds. The Koni suspension is double wishbone type (also known as overlapping arms) along with stabilizer bars to prevent body roll. The stability control system (ESP) is calibrated to intervene only at the edge of the grip, ensuring the fun of that most skilful driver.

The interior is very comfortable, even for a super sports car and has some pampering for the occupants: The dual-zone air conditioning system is standard as well as the six-cd changer. The new owner still had the option of including a satellite navigation system with 7-inch screen, radio, mp3 player and integrated TV. The seats, door linings and dashboard have been finished in high quality leather. The ceiling and the para-soles were coated in Alcantara and some units had two-tone interiors. Frontal, side and curtain-type inflatable bags closed the package.

The Gallardo was the most produced car of the brand, with 14,022 units built during the ten years it was on the assembly line.
The idea was to make a sports car that excels for comfort without leaving aside the characteristics that have made Lamborghini cars famous all over the world.
